Norway into Sweden

This is the view from Akershus Castle across Oslo Harbour to the city. From 1536 Norway was in a union with Denmark. After a dramatic fire in 1624, the Danish King Christian IV decided that the town be rebuilt below Akershus, so the fortress could function as a defence for the town. The town was renamed Christiania, after the king himself. In 1925 the name was changed back to its original, Oslo.
